The castle was built in the 14th century, commissioned by Viscount Rocabertí, outside the walled enclosure, beside the Carmelite Covent.
In 1923 it was acquired by Miguel Mateu Pla, who has made it home to his important sculpture, reredos, tapestry, furniture, etc. collections. The Convent library was extended, currently safekeeping around 70,000 volumes, with illuminated codex, Gothic manuscripts etc.
Today the Castle houses an important wine cellar whose tradition stems from the 15th century. During the month of August an important, International music festival takes place.
Timetables: 1 September to 30 June, 10.00am, 11.00am, 12.00 midday, 4.30pm, 5.30pm and 6.30pm. 1 July to 31 August, 10.00am, 11.00am, 12.00 midday, 4.00pm, 5.00pm, 6.00pm and 7.00pm.
Entry fee: General admission: 5 €. Reduced: 3.20 €. (groups of more than 10 people).
