The museum is set in a 10th-century Benedictine monastery, a noteworthy example of the Catalonian Romanesque. The first items to arrive at the museum came from Empúries. Subsequently, the collection was completed with Roman tombstones and sculptures, plus medieval epigraphy from Girona. Its collections now specialise in prehistory and archaeology. Since 1992 it has been part of the Catalonia Archaeology Museum.

Timetables:1 October to 31 May, Monday-Saturday, 10am-2pm and 4-6pm. Sundays and public holidays, 10am-2pm. 1 June to 30 September, Tuesday-Saturday, 10.30am-1.30pm and 4.00pm-7.00pm. Sundays and public holidays, 10am-2.00pm.Closed:Mondays, 1 and 6 January, 25 and 26 December.

Entry fee: General admission: €2.30 Reduced: €1.65 (pensioners, students, Youth Card holders and 16-18 year-olds, with ID). Groups (minimum 20 people): €1.80 (general). €1.20 (reduced). Free: over 65s and under 16s.
